Competition

Competition for business customers in Scotland was introduced on 1 April 2008. The competition framework was introduced by the Water Services etc (Scotland) Act 2005. We are responsible for implementing the framework set out by the Scottish Parliament in the Act. This includes licensing all participants in the market.

We have worked to develop a framework for competition that:

  • Is simple. Both suppliers and customers can understand and easily take advantage of the opportunities the market presents.
  • Is fair. All suppliers can be confident that they will compete on an even footing.
  • Promotes value and choice. Customers are able to choose a supplier that best meets their service and cost requirements.
